Initiation is a turning point in one’s Spiritual Life. It is an introduction into a Spiritual Path, Occult Teaching, or, a meditative technique. When it is genuine, Initiation it is a transfer of energy or Shakti from the Initiator to the Initiated.
I was initiated by the great guru Sri Chinmoy in 1978.  After one of his concerts, two large devotees one on each side, grasping my upper arms, escorted me into a private room where Sri Chinmoy was.  One foot or two feet apart He looked into my eyes. The moment a thought came to me, "What am I doing here?"
The two who stood by my side resumed their grip and ushered me out. I was forever changed. Sri Chinmoy put one of His Inner Beings, of which He has millions, into me.
Although Sri Chinmoy has passed, He still powerfully operates on the Earth plane. If there is a Sri Chinmoy Centre in your area, you would do well visiting it.  His path is the path of the Heart's silence. A connection with Him is imperative for this path.
The Initiation that I offer is of the correct mantra, practiced at the proper time, with the most effective technique. When the technique also enlivens the chakras, this is the true nature of Tantra Yoga.
This Ancient Path to Enlightenment is what I initiate aspirants into whether in person or via a personal Skype session. Once a connection is made, there may be contact beyond the bounds of Time and Space.

There is only a veil that separates the living from the dead. The same veil separates the material world from the astral world. There is a gulf that separates the Seven Heavens from the Seven Hells. This gulf is the material world.
Jesus spoke the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. Lazarus begged at the rich man's gate. Both died. The rich man asked Lazarus for a drop of water to quench his tongue. Lazarus who lived a miserable life at the rich man's gate mercifully would've given the rich man water but for the gulf which separated them.
Man living in the Material World, the gulf between the Heavens and Hells, is separated from the Astral World, or Heaven and Hell by a veil.
There are times of the month wherein the veil is slightly lifted allowing the living to offer their ancestors a drop of water, food and other things. This is called the Tarpanam ritual. Tarpanam removes ancestral karma and brings blessings.
Man, in a sense, has five bodies: Physical or Material, Astral or Vital, Mental, Psychic or Heart, and, Soul Body or Human Spirit. The Material body is gross, the Astral or vital body is finer, the mental body is finer than the vital, the psychic or heart, is finer than the mind, the finest is the Soul.

During life the Soul has access to all the Material, Astral, Mental, Psychic or Heart, and Soul Worlds through its five corresponding bodies. After life the Soul losses its vehicles one by one in time, travels from the grossest to the subtlest, then in the reincarnation process, from the subtlest to the grossest again. The Soul's Journey from the gross to the subtle is the process of death. The Soul's journey from the subtle to the gross is the process of reincarnation. After death the Soul may remain close to the material plane for up to forty days before migrating to the Astral or Vital plane.
The newly dead are sometimes confused and don't realize that they've died. (Please see article of ghosts that appeared to taxi drivers after the Fukushima disaster To produce an apparition the Soul remains attached to the physical to such an extent that it keeps the subtle physical body intact. This kind of attachment occurs when the Soul does not realize that it's physical body has died, or when unexpected or violent deaths occur.
In most cases the Soul being free from the physical travels unhindered in the Astral Body anywhere it desires in that plane, separated from the material world by a veil. The Astral plane being the closest to the material plane, is easily accessed by those that are sensitive or spiritually advanced.
As I only write from personal experience, I will relate a few experiences that may be of interest. I had a dream one night. A real dream. A young black man came to me and took me down a private road or ally with chain link fences on both sides. He showed me a clearing, a lawn with a sidewalk. Then a black couple sitting in their living room crying. He said, "I was shot because I am black."
A week later, the news of Trevon Martin's killing hit national news and I recognized the couple in my dream. They were Trevon's parents. I recognized the teenaged black man to be Trevon, complete with hoody, and, the clearing to be the crime scene.
Shortly after George Harrison died, he stood before me in my mind's eye and said with his characteristic humor, "And who are you?" Afterward I learned from various documentaries about George several striking similarities in our spiritual lives. We both were first introduced into Yogic Philosophy through the works of Swami Vivekananda, both bought multiple copies of Paramahamsa Yogananda's, AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF A YOGI, to give to friends. George was a direct initiate of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, my guru was a direct initiate of the Maharishi. Both of us loved Swami Prabhupada, who shaped our spiritual life.
George was a great influence over my life because of his music and I felt very blessed by his visit to me in his Astral Body. I don't know why he came to me. I was greatly blessed that he did.
My guru Sri Chinmoy died on a Thursday. I was at my office like any other day. While I did not receive any word of His death, I broke down and cried, saying, "I lost my guide in this world...I lost my guide..."
I had no idea why I did this until the weekend when I heard on NPR that the great guru Sri Chinmoy had died that passed Thursday. By the time I got the news, I had already been assured by Him, that He is in fact not dead, and, would be accessible to those that love Him. He continues to work on the Earth plane today.
The Great Ones can remain active on the Earth plane long after they have passed. Sri Ramakrishna and Paramahamsa Yogananda both have appeared in their astral bodies to me in a gesture of welcome when I first visited their ashrams.
For the ordinary man, as the Soul's vehicles dissolve, i.e, the Physical and Subtle Vehicles, the Astral or Vital Body may separate from the Mental, Psychic, and, Soul Bodies. The Astral or Vital energy may repeat actions or scenes in the Soul's life in a loop of samsara for years or even decades until dissipation, or, merely hover around the grave site until the corpse completely turns to dust.
As the Soul migrates to the Astral plane it then receives reward or punishment according to its thoughts, desires, and actions during life. The Astral plane is the source of the world wide ancient myths of Heaven and Hell that all Souls must pass through. It's not an eternal state.
The Soul gravitates to the Hell or Heaven that it's drawn to by the what it secretly loved during life whether it be vice or virtue. (This video contains a description of one Hell. It is worth viewing:
The Soul continues to the finer planes of the Mental, Psychic and Soul Worlds. In the Soul’s World it enjoys the Highest Bliss until material desires arise again causing it to be reborn in the Physical World. In Its decent, It gains the bodies one by one in reverse order that it lost during the process of death. It gathers a Psychic, Mental, Vital, and lastly, a Physical Body.
Prior to birth the Soul is given a choice of parents and families according to karma. This “new” person is not the same as the one of the previous incarnation in all of the five aspects of Soul, Heart, Mind, Vital, and Body. All that survives of the last incarnation is the Divinity that the Soul gained in the previous life in all of the five worlds.
The function of reincarnation and the transmigration of Souls is to increase Divinity or Christ Consciousness in the Material World. The Spiritual Life is a life of Transformation from Human to Divine. As one remains in the Presence of the Lord, one gets transformed into His Image. Light received by the Soul that is allowed to spread into a loving, devoted, and surrendered Heart, transforms the Heart through spiritual alchemy.
The Light received by the Heart if allowed to spread into a concentrated and silent Mind, illumines the Mind. This is Enlightenment. The Light received by the Mind, if allowed to spread into a disciplined Vital or Astral Body, purifies the Vital energy from lower form desires. The Light received by the Vital or Astral Body, if allowed to spread into the Physical Body, eventually transforms it into a Body of Light, or Light Body.
It is only the transformed portions of man’s various bodies which survive into the next incarnation as the process of death burns away everything else as dross, leaving only the refined Gold of Divinity. In this manner a Soul after numerous of incarnations has the opportunity to continue on Its spiritual journey back to Godhead until there are no longer any material desires to cause rebirth into the Material World.

Many tritely say that their body is a temple.  Often this phrase is used in the context of diet and exercise. There is much ignorance surrounding this truth.

Not everyone’s ramblings should be accepted as truth, but should be weighed against the scriptures.  This being the Kali Yuga, or the age of Ignorance, which began upon the first murder of Abel by his brother Cain, the Old Testament Hebrew Temple will be examined as God manifested a Presence there.  The New Testament will also be examined as it is there where the new temple is said to be the human body.

The Bible is the record of God’s sojourn upon the Earth from the Garden of Eden, to the Tabernacle, to the Hebrew Temple, to the human body and, finally to the New Jerusalem.  In the Garden of Eden, man walked with God.  At the beginning of the Bible, Man was man, and, God was God. In Revelation, God and Man are one inseparable Being manifested as a new temple, the New Jerusalem.

When Adam and Eve were cast from the Garden of Eden, God placed a Flaming Sword to prevent their return.  Adam and Eve then had two sons, Cain, a farmer and Able, a sheepherder.  Both Cain and Able wanted to please God and offered the fruits of their labor to God.  Cain offered grains, vegetables, and, fruits, and, Able offered a lamb.

Fire from Heaven devoured the lamb, but did not touch the vegetarian offering.  This is another indicator of the terrible age of Kali wherein God requires a blood sacrifice.  In previous Yugas this would defile an offering.  Furthermore, in previous Yugas the eating of flesh was forbidden, in the Age of Kali, meat eating is recommended due to the dull nature and short lifespan of present man.

Animal sacrifice was instituted as a ritual to appease God.  The death of the animals was a substitute for the death required as a penalty for the congregation’s sins. Animals were slaughtered by the sword. Portions were fed to the fire, or, cooked, then given to the congregation for food. There were so many sacrifices there was a continual sweet savor rising up to Heaven before the Tabernacle, or tent, wherein was placed sacred articles, chief among them the Arc of the Covenant where the Mercy Seat was. Thus the sacrifice, a proxy for the members of the congregation, passed through the Flaming Sword into God’s Presence.

After the blood of the sacrifice was sprinkled upon the Mercy Seat by the High Priest, the Glory of God would fill the Tabernacle as a Testament to His Presence.  This was a Ritual continuously performed so that in the day a pillar of smoke was seen, and, at night a pillar of fire.  It was very festive like an ongoing Barbeque, with thousands of cattle, sheep, doves or pre-chickens slaughtered, cooked, and, eaten by the congregation.

The Holy Tabernacle was the home to the Arc of the Covenant and the Presence of God until a Temple made of Stone was built in a similar pattern as the Tabernacle but meant to be a “permanent” home. The Tabernacle and Temple had three parts: the Outer Court, the Holy Place, and the Holy of Holies.

However, God did not remain satisfied as a Racial or Tribal God in a building built with stone and animal sacrifice.  The eternal God was incarnated as a baby born of a virgin, to sacrifice Himself as a lamb, once and for all.

It is a tenant of Christianity that Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God shed His Blood for the sins of the World.  The New Testament of the Lord Jesus Christ reveals that God came and fulfilled every Old Testament type and prophesy as a sinless man who took the punishment, which is death, for the sin of the World.

The Holy Law imposed by a Just and Holy God could never be nullified. The Injustice of a sinless man suffering the punishment of sin mandated that the sinful no longer suffer that punishment but have everlasting life through the proxy of Lord Jesus’ death.

The Earthly Temple was dismantled shortly after the Lord Jesus’ death and resurrection, ceasing animal sacrifice.  However, there was, is, and always will be a Heavenly Temple wherein the Lord Christ Jesus, as the High Priest of the Order of Melchisadec offers His blood sacrifice on behalf of the entire creation in the Heavenly Holy of Holies..

This Heavenly or subtle temple follows the pattern of the Earthly Temple under the principle of, “As below, so it is above.”  So does Man.

Jesus referred to His Body as a temple.  The first time the expression of the “temple of the body” appears in the Bible is in the Gospels of the New Testament.  Jesus declared, “Destroy this Temple, and in three days, I will raise it up again…speaking of the temple of His body.”

God no longer dwells in a temple of stone, rather He is to be found within Man.  As the Old Testament Temple had an Outer Court with Alter and Incense Burner the New Testament Man has an outward body whose animal nature, body mind, or, ego, is to be bound, severed by the Sword that cuts asunder spirit from flesh, and burned in the Fiery Furnace that purifies and transforms by burning the dross from the gold;  Aspiration to evolve expressed by prayer which rises up to Heaven and pleases God as incense smoke.

The Old Testament Temple had a Holy Place with shew bread, and, a candlestick holder hidden within.  The New Testament Man has a Vital Body which sustains and vitalizes, and, a Mental Body which illuminates subtly within.

The Old Testament Temple had a Holy of Holies with the Arc of the Covenant containing the Ten Commandments, Manna, Aaron’s Rod that blossomed hidden within it.  The New Testament Man has a heart inscribed by the moral code (conscience), a Human Spirit or Soul which enlivens the entire being, the Shushumna (within the spinal cord) or blossoming rod flooded with Supernal Light and Life.

At the time of Christ’s death on the cross, the curtain separating the Holy of Holies and the Holy Place was torn from top to bottom.  Henceforth the Glory of the Presence of God need no longer be hidden from the limited light of the Mind of Man, but fill and illuminate the entire Being.

Having this knowledge from a young age, I made it my quest to commune with the Supreme within the Holy of Holies of the temple of my body.  As an Initiate my experience of the Presence of God was somewhat “hit or miss.”  Some days I would have “mountain top experiences,” other days, nothing.  I practiced long hours meditating upon the Word.  Eventually I learned how to peer within, deep, deeper, and deepest to behold the Lord as if looking in a mirror, which transforms one into His image from Glory to Glory, which is the Promise of Glory.

The Spiritual Life is a life of transformation first of consciousness, heart, mind, vital energy and lastly the body. The transformation takes place by repeatedly and continually entering the Holy of Holies within one's
self where the Glory of God dwells.  Therefore the body is a temple of this Glory of which one's soul is the medium.

Now at this very moment the Glory of God dwells within one’s subtlest dimension.  The fact that Man is a Multidimensional being is revealed by the three rooms of the tabernacle and the Temple.  These are not ordinary rooms but dimensions of reality or Universes from gross to subtle, subtler, and subtlest.

Love, Devotion, and Surrender open the inner dimensions of one's being from the outer court, to the Holy Place, and finally to the Holy of Holies. Being a temple of the Living God is a very wonderful way to live.

The final Manifestation of God upon Earth revealed in the Bible is the New Jerusalem. It is the post-Apocalyptic Church. God and Man have become one, and, Man have become one with each other.  It is a Temple not of stone, but of the saints, built up together with Christ as the Foundation and the Capstone.
